Chapter 3
I waited in the waiting room for her to finish with a nice woman doctor who came and pulled me away from the old Time Magazine I was reading. It had been from six years ago even though the office had just opened a few months ago. The doctor pulled me into the room and Rosalia ran up to me and hugged me like she was upset. Standing there with this 18 year old hugging me and softly crying made me realize two things. The first was that Rosalia was about 2 inches shorter than me, and probably closer to my wife’s height than mine, and the other was that there was something wrong.
“Are you Mr….. Santiago?” The doctor asked.
“No, I’m not her father, or family for that matter. I’m Mr. Smalls, her neighbor. What’s the matter?” I asked.
“Well, she told me to get you when I told her the news.” The doctor said.
“What news?” I asked.
“I’m pregnant.” She cried.
“Really? That’s awesome! Wait… I thought you told me you didn’t date.” I said.
“I don’t! The doctor confirmed it, I’m still a virgin.” She cried.
“I don’t get it then.” I said. “How far along is she?”
“A few weeks, at least. I’d have to run some blood tests to make sure but based on her last period, and when ovulations should’ve taken place roughly two weeks or so ago.” She said.
“Positive pregnancy test though?” I asked.
“Yes.” The doctor said. “And with no boyfriend, she isn’t sure how it happened.” It hit me right then.
“Doc, I know this is farfetched but…” I started. “Can you get pregnant in a hot tub? I mean if the man came in the hot tub and you went in there and enjoyed yourself without it being drained and sanitized?”
“Not as farfetched as you might think, sperm can survive in such conditions. Though I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone getting pregnant in that scenario.” She said.
“I have.” I said. “I watched a news review about a young teen who got pregnant by a stranger in a hot tub after he jacked off in it.”
“I have heard of stranger things. Do you know who the man was who came in the hot tub she was in?” The doctor asked.
“Yeah, Doc.” I said as I looked at her intensely. “Cause she was in my back yard after I had relations with my wife, skinny dipping and masturbating in my hot tub.”
“Well that could definitely do it, especially if she entered near where you and your wife were having relations. Listen, I’m gonna put a rush on this. Can I call you when I get the results in?” The doctor asked.
“Yeah.” I said. I looked down at the possible mother of my child. I couldn’t believe it as she cried in my arms. I quickly gave the doctor the number. She drew a few vials of blood from Rosalia’s arm and then walked out saying we could go. I paid the co-pay then we headed back to my house. When we got in the house, she sat down in the living room.
“My parents are gonna freak out.” She said.
“Your parents? Wow. Okay, I’ll deal with your parents. I will explain everything.” I said. I walked out the door and headed over to her house. Her father was at the door when I knocked.
“Hola neighbor!” He said.
“I need you and your wife to come with me.” I said.
“What is the matter?” he said in a thick Mexican accent.
“I’ll explain in a minute.” I said. He called for his wife and after she met him at the door, he spoke in Spanish to her. She nodded and I led them back over to my house where Rosalia was crying on my couch. Her mother ran over to her speaking more Spanish then hugged her. I pulled out the dvd that I had made incase this had come up. I popped it in my ps3 and turned on my 57 inch tv that her father had helped me move in.
“Now, Jose, I don’t want you to be angry when I show you this. Trust me it explains a lot.” I said.
“What is it?” He asked before I activated the video.
“Security footage from two weeks ago.” I said as I activated the video. The video was in full color with sound. I loved that ability. The video showed me and my wife getting out of the hot tub and I paused it. “I know this is just a clip but what just happened before this was that my wife and I were getting it on in our new hot tub. We’ve been trying for a child for a while and this was one of our tries.” I said.
“Hot tub really work?” Jose asked.
“Got me hard fast and got her relaxed. I don’t know if it worked to get my wife pregnant though. But notice the time stamp.” I said pointing at the bottom of the screen. Jose just nodded. His wife was trying to calm her daughter down. “Now…” I said starting it up again and fast forwarding an hour or so. “Here’s your daughter.” I said.
“So what? She was just pool hopping with her friends. I did it when I was a kid.” Jose said.
“That’s not why your daughter is crying. She’s crying because she thinks you’re gonna hate her.” I said.
“What? Why?” Jose said looking back at her. Rosalia was still too upset to explain.
“Jose, your daughter got in my hot tub right after I had sex with my wife. I know that you took basic biology.” I said.
“Wait are you saying that she’s pregnant?” he asked.
“She might be. She came to me upset this morning because she wasn’t sure why her body was acting the way it was. She was looking to talk to my wife cause my wife is closer to her age, but Andrea’s out of town, so I took her to the doctor and covered the expense. The doctor checked her and took some blood for a test to confirm. Your daughter may be pregnant with my child even though she’s still a virgin.” I said.
“Whoa.” Jose said before sitting down.
“Is this true?” Her mother asked in English. Rosalia nodded.
“I figured since I’m an adult, I’d talk with you about it.” I said.
“You two weren’t having sex?” Jose asked still a bit stunned.
“While your daughter is an attractive young lady, She’s not my type.” I said.
“Wait, why should I believe that?” Jose asked. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my pics to find one of my wife in the nude posing for me. I handed him the phone. “She looks pregnant now. Are you sure you haven’t knocked up your wife yet?”
“No, that’s just the way she carries her weight. Trust me, We’ve been trying.” I said. “I’m just into women with large bellies.”
“So what happens now? Our daughter might be carrying your child.” Her mother asked.
“I was raised to the mental rules of that two parents should always be married and a father should always look out for his kids. If the tests come back, it’s gonna be mine, So I’ll be happy to help her through the pregnancy and help raise it.” I said.
“Wait, this is unbelievable…” Jose said. “You thought I’d get mad over this? Yeah it was an accident but it wouldn’t make me hate you. Besides, this guy, he’s a good man. He wants to be responsible. I can’t be mad for that either.” Rosalia started to fight back her tears again and sat up to give him a hug.
“Thank you, Papi.” She said.
“Now, your daughter and I have to wait for the doctor to call. We’ll let you know as soon as she does.” I said. “And with me and my wife in the picture, your daughter will have a bright future ahead.” I told him.
“No doubt. My little girl is in great hands.” He said. “Let’s give them some time to discuss this.” He told his wife. She gave her daughter a tight hug then stood up when Jose did and let themselves out.
“So what now?” Rosalia asked.
“Let me get you a soda, while you relax in here. Feel free to pop on something else. Just a heads up, my wife and I have a lot of tv channels and movies, but nothing Spanish.” I said as I stood up and walked out of the room. I grabbed a soda from my fridge and walked back in. “Hope you don’t mind the offbrands.” I said handing her the soda. She blushed as she took it from my hand.
“So since we’re in the unknown point right now, let’s pretend it was a misreading for the moment.” I said.
“Why?” She asked.
“Well, I think we should get to know each other.” I said. She looked around my living room.
“You have a lot of stuff.” She said, opening the soda.
“You are not the first to say that. Believe it or not most of this was with us in a single bedroom and we still had room to move around freely.” I told her.
“Why all the computers?” She asked.
“Work. Andrea and I work from home.” I told her.
“Porn?” She asked.
“Are you asking if we make it or if we look at it?” I asked.
“Little of both.” She said blushing before taking a sip.
“No to the first one, yes to the second. My wife loves her porn.” I said openly.
“Wow, really?” She asked.
“Yeah, my wife’s a bit of a nympho.” I said. “But I do…” I started to say only to have Rosalia press her lips to mine.
